Permanent Solution to a Short Term Problem. What am I talking about? I am talking about suicide. That word has been weighing on my mind quite heavily lately. No, not because I have been considering it myself. But because I do not completely understand how an individual’s life, in their own minds, can be so bad that they seriously contemplate taking their own life.
But let me not be naive about the state of mind some of these people are in that would lead them to even consider suicide. Now I will not lie to you. There was a time in my high school years to when for a short period, I did consider taking my own life.At the time, I blamed my depression on having Cerebral Palsy. That was the reason that I was an outcast from all the other kids. And also the reason I was bullied some in school.
But honestly, I was never bullied to the extent that kids are today. It turns out that I was more sociably awkward than anything else. Thankfully, suicide was not going to be my permanent solution to a short-term problem. Unfortunately, not every troubled person sees it this way.
Not everyone shares my feelings. No matter how frustrating my life gets at times, I want to live for as long as God allows me to be on this planet. And then, as I’ve stated, you have people who think just the opposite. And this is very upsetting for me. So what can I do to not only raise awareness in the raise to let people know that they do not have to make that permanent solution to a short-term problem? Better yet, what can we all do to help prevent this from happening.
Studies indicate that suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people and that a whopping 20% of high school kids have considered that permanent solution to a short-term problem, called suicide. That is a very sobering fact. There has to be a solution to stop this.
Personally, I feel that depression and suicide rates are even higher for persons with disabilities. There has got to be more awareness in all aspects of our rearing of our children. Better communication of finding solutions to prevent our kids, our future, to ever feel as if they need to take their own lives.
I wish I could just reach out to everyone that might be depressed, who might be considering suicide, put my hand on them and let them know that there is a much better way. They may not be able to see it right now. But there is a better solution. To let them know that just like He has for me,
God has a plan for them. That this too shall pass and brighter days are ahead. There is so much in this life that is worth living for. But because I can not reach out and physically touch each person in need, I am leaving a very important contact for those who might think suicide is their only option. So if you are a person in need of a 24-hour service to help you, please contact National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. And remember, the world is a better place with you in it.
